I know it's been just a couple of days since Tom Riginos left Clemson to become head coach at Winthrop, but I wonder whose names are being tossed around to replace him as an assistant to Jack Leggett.
I wonder if Randy Mazey, a former Tigers player and coach, has any interest in coming back this way. He's an assistant at TCU, which reached the College World Series this season.
Mazey and Leggett were assistant coaches under Bill Wilhelm during the 1992-93 seasons, but I have no idea how they get along -- I have no reason to suspect they don't.
Mazey has head coaching experience at Charleston Southern and East Carolina, and served as an assistant at ECU, Georgia and Tennessee in addition to Clemson.
Mazey has been working with pitchers at TCU, and had one of the best in the country this season in Matt Purke. Clemson has a pitching coach at Dan Pepicelli, so Mazey might be given duties similar to what Riginos had. One of Riginos' roles was recruiting coordinator, something Mazey has done in the past.
Mazey is actually older that Horned Frogs coach Jim Schlossnagle, so it doesn't seem likely that he would be hanging around as a "head coach in waiting" unless Schlossnagle, an Elon grad, is snapped up by a school at one of the major conferences.
Do you think Mazey would return? Post your thoughts in the comments section.

You realize you're going to give MagicCityRooster an apoplexy just by mentioning Mazey's name?
I don't see it simply because I don't see it fitting Clemson's needs. Riginos' departure leaves Clemson without a hitting coach. Mazey would not help with that. Leggett has two options, hire a hitting coach/recruiting coordinator, or move Pepicelli to recruiting coordinator and hire a hitting coach.
