Preseason Preview: Winthrop

This is the second in a series of previews of state teams. First-year Winthrop coach Tom Riginos provides the quote in response to the first questions. Wesley Herring, Winthrop's Sports Information Director for baseball, provides the other information.


Palmetto State Baseball: What is the outlook for your team this season?
TR: "With all of the experience returning, we have a chance to be competitive everyday we take the field. If the players play hard every single day, are mentally tough and hustle, this team has a chance to win some games."

PSB: Based on what you saw in fall workouts, which newcomers seem most ready to contribute from the start of the season?
WH: Matt Lobacz, Mitchell Knox, Brett Thomas

PSB: Based on what you saw in fall workouts, what area of your team is of the most concern entering the season?
WH: Catching depth and middle relief pitching

PSB: Which returnees from 2010 do you think fans will see the most improvement in for 2011?
WH: 2011 pitching staff as a whole
