News Digest, February 18

Happy Opening Day!
I mean no disrepect to baseball programs on other levels, but the first NCAA Division I games of the season are today. I was lucky enough to see 30 or so games (including a few DII games) last season. My work hours have changed, so I don't know what to expect for 2011. Regardless of what the calendar says, it's springtime. Play Ball.

Link to TV games added
College Baseball Insider has compiled a list of games scheduled for live TV this season. I've also added it to the list of links on the right.

  • Wofford guide online
Like The Citadel, Wofford is not printing a media guide this year and will make it available online only. I'm all for saving trees, but I don't like this trend. There will be times when a media guide is needed for reference and an internet connection isn't readily available.

  • Black College podcast started
BlackCollegeBaseball is starting a weekly in-season podcast centering on black college baseball programs. I'm all for anything that expands the interest in baseball, particularly on the college level.

UCLA is the No. 1 team entering the season in College Baseball 360's composite poll of other preseason rankings. Clemson is No. 7, South Carolina No. 7, Coastal Carolina No. 21 and College of Charleston No. 26.
