Florence-Darlington Tech coach Preston McDonald has submitted answers to the preseason questionnaire I sent out.
PSB: What is the outlook for your team this season?
PM: We were disappointed last year after finishing the season 25-27. We feel like we are a more experienced club this year with more leadership. The guys also took the off-season conditioning program more serious this year. Hopefully this will translate into some wins.
PSB: Based on what you saw in fall workouts, which newcomers seem most ready to contribute from the start of the season?
PM: Nick Lacik is a freshman outfielder from Virginia who had an outstanding fall and should contribute early. Bryant Salmond is a freshman third baseman from Camden who we hope can fill the void left by Steven Johnson who led the team in home runs and RBI's last season.
PSB: Based on what you saw in fall workouts, what area of your team is of the most concern entering the season?
PM: Pitching is always a concern and this year is no different. We are looking for a few pitchers to separate themselves and be go-to guys out of the pen.
PSB: Which returnees from 2010 do you think fans will see the most improvement in for 2011?
PM: Sean Townsley is a sophomore pitcher from Pennsylvania who has signed with High Point University. He made a big jump over the summer and we are expecting him to have a solid season.
