MLB.com reports the following players with state connections have signed pro contracts:

* Clemson recruit Lucas Sims has signed with the Braves
* Newberry College pitcher Josh McElwee has signed with the Rangers

GamecockCentral.com's David Cloninger reports the following USC recruits have signed pro deals:
* OF Jamie Jarmon, Rangers
* RHP Jamie Callahan (Dillon), Red Sox
* LHP Zak Wasilewski, Blue Jay.

The College of Charleston reports:
* Gilbert native Chris Owings, a pitcher for thee College of Charleston has signed a free-agent deal with  the Arizona Diamondback.
* CofC signee Ronald Pena was picked in the 16th round (504 overall) by the Washington Nationals.
 
Roth, Holmes get first two starts
Scott Hood of GamecockCentral.com reports USC pitching coach Jerry Meyers on Columbia radio station WNKT (107.5 The Game) Thursday that Michael Roth and Colby Holmes would be the Gamecocks' scheduled starting pitchers for the first two games of the best-of-three Super Regional series against  Oklahoma beginning Saturday.
