Maryland bolts ACC
The University of Maryland on Monday announced plans to leave the Atlantic Coast Conference and join the Big Ten Conference effective with the 2014-15 academic year.

Maryland's baseball team went 32-24 last season, including 10-20 in the ACC. It was the Terrapins' best overall record in a decade and marked just the second 10-win season in ACC play in the last 40 years.

Coach Eric Bakich left after last season to become head coach at Michigan and was replaced by John Szefc. Depending the Big Ten's scheduling format, Maryland's conference move may give Bakich a chance to coach against his former team.

The loss of Maryland and impending addition of Notre Dame and Pittsburgh - Syracuse doesn't field a baseball team (I hate writing that) - would put the ACC at 14 teams for baseball.
