Pankake No. 48 on countdown
University of South Carolina sophomore shortstop Joey Pankake is No. 48 on CollegeBaseballDaily.com's countdown of the top 100 players entering the 2013 season. The Easley native, who may pitch some this season, joins teammate and classmate Grayson Greiner (No. 50)  and Coastal Carolina's Jacob May (55) on the list. Spartanburg native Hunter Cole of Georgia was No. 91.

Three get Peach Belt honors
Francis Marion pitcher Jeff Stone, Lander outfielder Patrick Grady and USC Aiken catcher Josh Miller have been selected to the preseason all-Peach Belt Conference team in a vote of league coaches.

Seminoles' Compton sidelined
CollegeBaseballInsider.com reports Florida State right-hander Mike Compton is out indefinitely after suffering an elbow injury. His status will be reevaluated in two weeks.

Lexington High No. 5
Lexington High School is fifth in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's preseason high school rankings. The Wildcats are the only South Carolina team in the bnewspaper's top 25. Cathedral Catholic of San Diego is No. 1 and T.C. Roberson of Asheville is No.7. Grayson (4th), Loganville (19th) and Milton (26th) high schools from Georgia also are ranked.
