Patriots No. 24
Tampa is ranked No. 1 and Francis Marion, at No. 24, is the only state team in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's preseason poll for NCAA Division II. In the Southeast Region, Mount Olive is No. 1, Francis Marion No. 2, USC Aiken No. 5 and Lander No. 7. Benedict first baseman David Weber was named preseason first team all-South Region. Pitcher Spencer Jordan of Francis Marion was named named first-team all-Southeast Region. Catcher Josh Miller of USC Aiken, first baseman Drew Willingham of Erskine, second baseman Allen Stanton of North Greenville and shortstop Michael Hughey were second-team choices. USC Aiken first baseman Ty Barkell, USCA pitcher Wyatt Brown and Erskine outfielder Will Huff were third-team selections.

Hembree among Giants' prospects
Broome High graduate and former Spartanburg Methodist College and College of Charleston standout Heath Hembree is ranked by Baseball America as the No. 7 prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Buccaneers make official announcement about lights
Charleston Southern has officially announced plans to add lights for its baseball stadium. Work will begin immediately and is expected to be ready in time for the second half of the 2013 season.
