News Digest, Feb. 7, Part 4

Metts picks Fleet
Joe Metts, a first baseman/right-handed pitcher for Clyde A. Erwin High in Asheville, sent me an e-mail announcing he had committed to play baseball for Erskine. Metts hit .315, with 6 homers and 25 RBIs as a junior. He earned all-conference and all-region honors. He already has the Flying Fleet logo on his Twitter account.

Caldwell may be available
Elliott Caldwell, who has been slowed by injuries in the preseason, may be available for Spartanburg Methodist  College for its weekend games against Surry Community College and the Limestone junior varsity. A Wren High graduate, Caldwell transferred to SMC after his freshman season at Winthrop. Caldwell had a solid summer in the Prospect League and has committed to play for South Carolina.
