PIONEEERS, LANCERS IN WAITING MODE

Spartanburg Methodist and USC Lancaster have qualified to represent Region X in the NJCAA baseball playoffs this year, but the teams don't yet know where their next games will be.

The Eastern District playoff, set for May 17-19, is to be hosted by the champion of Region XX. That tournament, being played in Hagerstown, Md., has been hampered by rain.  Two games are being played today: Harford and Chesapeake are playing at noon. The winner of that game faces Potomac State at 3 p.m.

If Potomac State wins that game, it is the Region XX champ and will serve as district host. If Potomac State loses at 3 p.m., another game would be played  Tuesday to determien the champion.

ASA (once known as Advances Software Analysis) College of New York is the other team in the Eastern District playoff.  It represents Region XV.

Spartanburg Methodist won both the regular-season and tournament titles in Region X. USC Lancaster, which finished last in the regular season, earned the second bid from Region X by reaching the tournament finals.
