WHAT DID SATURDAY'S RESULTS MEAN FOR STATE TEAMS?

(In alphabetical order)

Charleston Southern - Not knowing the Big South Conference tiebreaker between teams who didn't meet in the regular season, I don't know if the Buccaneers could have affected their tournament seed with a victory to tie Longwood in the standings at 12-12. But, they lost to Coastal Carolina, 5-4 and will draw top seed Campbell in the tournament's first round at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lynchburg, Va.
on Tuesday.

Clemson - The 6-1 loss to Florida State denied the Tigers the Atlantic Division title.  Coupled with N.C. State's sweep of Duke, Clemson finished third place in the division. The Tigers finished with the fifth-best record overall. Clemson will learn its schedule today when the ACC announces its schedule for pool play. A couple of wins in the tournament might solidify the Tigers' chances of being a regional host.

Coastal Carolina - The Chanticleers beat Charleston Southern, but already had wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the Big South Tournament. They'll play Longwood at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the tournament opener.

Coker - The Cobras are putting together quite the postseason run. They won the Conference Carolinas Tournament to qualify for the postseason and on Saturday moved into the championship round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional by beating top seed - and conference foe - Mount Olive.  They'll play Georgia College - the surprise winner of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament - today for a slot in the DII World Series.

College of Charleston - The Cougars completed a sweep of Georgia Southern with an 8-6 victory,. Coupled with The Citadel's loss at UNC Greensboro, it was enough to move CofC into the second seed for the upcoming Southern Conference Tournament in Greenville. They'll meet the Eagles for the fourth straight game to complete the SoCon's Tournament's first day sometime around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday..

Furman - The Paladins' regular-season finale against Dayton was rained out, so they were reduced to cheering for Western Carolina to beat Appalachian State to let Furman grab the fifth seed for the SoCon Tournament. Appalachian State won, however, so the Paladins must settle for the sixth seed and a first-round game against Elon at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

South Carolina - The Gamecocks spit the bit in their regular-season finale, committing three errors in a 7-2 loss at Mississippi State. They'd already wrapped up the fourth seed and bye past the single-elimination opening round of the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala. The two negative side effects of the loss were USC failed to hit 40 wins for the season, and it lost a head-to-head series against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs and Gamecocks are likely contending with each other to be one of the host teams in the NCAA Tournament. Does USC need to outperform Mississippi State in order to get the edge? We'll see. USC plays the final game Wednesday. Its opponent will be either No. 12 seed Missouri - or No. Mississippi State.

Spartanburg Methodist - The Pioneers beat ASA College, 7-2, in the Eastern District Tournament to move within one win of the NJCAA World Series. SMC plays host Potomac State in Keyser, W. Va., at 11 a.m. needing one win to advance. Potomac State must beat SMC twice. An if necessary game would begin about 30 minutes after the end of the first game.

The Citadel - Just one loss can be very damaging. The Bulldogs lost to UNC Greensboro, 7-4, and fell from the second seed to the fourth for the SoCon Tournament. They draw Appalachian State in a first-round game at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenville.

USC Upstate - The Spartans showed a flair for the dramatic, qualifying for the Atlantic Sun Tournament by scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat North Florida, 4-3. Upstate needed to finish one game ahead of Jacksonville in the standings to qualify. The teams had entered the weekend tied for the final tournament spot.  Jacksonville had the head-to-head tiebreaker, but didn't get to use it; the Dolphins lost to East Tennessee State, 11-4, on Saturday. The Spartans will play regular-season champ Mercer at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday in the A-Sun Tournament in DeLand, Fla.

USC Aiken - The Pacers put together a great regular season, but the magic couldn't carry over to the postseason. After going two-and-out as the top seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, the Pacers were cashiered from the NCAA DII Southeast Region by Peach Belt rival Georgia College on Saturday, 9-2.  It would be understandable of the Pacers' season highlight video ignored the postseason.

Wofford - With an 8-1 non-conference loss to Old Dominion, the Terriers finished playing out the string.
