Furman honors baseball team
Furman University honored the Paladins baseball team Monday night, presenting it with the Max and Trude Heller Commitment to Community Award for its work with the Mauldin Miracle League and fundraising efforts to battle childhood cancer.

The Miracle League offers special needs children a chance to play baseball on fields designed to accommodate their needs. Max Heller was a former mayor of Greenville. Trude was his wife.

The baseball team is involved in its annual campaign to raise money to fight cancer. Players will have their heads shaved after a game against the University of South Carolina at Fluor Field in Greenville later this month.

Furman senior Brant Masters, who is leading the effort in support o VsCancer.org., was named to the Furman Hall of Leaders.

Teammate Alex Abrams shared the C. Dan Joyner Outstanding Athletic Leader Award with women's basketball player Brigid Morrissey. Joyner was a Furman alumnus, a Greenville business leader and an enthusiastic support of Paladins athletics.
