PalmettoStateBaseball.com team of the week, April 21-27: Lander

Lander (4-0 last week)
(Went 1-0 against Erskine; went 3-0 against Armstrong Atlantic)

It's already been a special season for Lander's baseball team and the Bearcats are working to build more memorable moments.

Coach Kermit Smith's Bearcats wrapped up their first-ever regular-season championship in the Peach Belt Conference with a weekend sweep of Armstrong Atlantic. That was good enough for them to become the first two-time winner of PalmettoStateBaseball.com's team of the week in 2014.

Lander, which closed the regular-season on a 13-game winning streak, has set a school single-season record with 43 victories (against 6 losses).

The Bearcats have been ranked second behind Tampa in most NCAA Division II national polls for most of the regular season.

Their lofty record and outstanding home facilities make the Bearcats an extremely likely candidate to be awarded a regional host role when the Division II field is selected May 11.

Next up, though, is the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, an eight-team, single-elimination event May 10-11 at USC Aiken's Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
