2015 PalmettoStateBaseball.com preview: USC Salkehatchie

Second in a series of 2015 season previews for college/junior college baseball programs in South Carolina. I've asked for responses from every school. I'll run all I receive. Some days, I may run more than one. I'll publicize all on Twitter (@palmettobase) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Palmetto-State-Baseball-Blog/92994136001)

Responses by USC Salkehatchie coach Bubba Dorman.

Palmetto State Baseball: After what you saw in fall workouts, what are your team's prospects for the 2015 season?

BD: USC Salkehatchie should be a competitive team despite its youth. We played very well defensively in the fall and the pitchers threw strikes for the most part. Offensively we have some speed and several guys that have the potential to handle the bat well.

PSB: What are your biggest areas of concern entering the 2015 season?

BD: The biggest concern is the depth of our squad on the mound and on the infield.

PSB: In what areas does your team appear to be improved from the 2014 season?

BD: We seem to have a better team concept this year!  Each one pulling for the team as a whole.

PSB: Based on fall workouts, which returnees from 2014 (including redshirts) look best prepared to play a bigger role in 2015?

BD: We have only 9 returning players from 2014. Of those 9, Thomas Smith - RHP, Zachary Graham – RHP, Brent Lacey – RHP, should anchor our pitching staff. Dalton Foster – C/1B/DH, Nolan Clark – 1B, Matthew Holloman - C, DiMarkus Sanders - OF, Cooper Mullet – 3B, Robie Lopez – OF, are all expected to give us some leadership.

PSB: Based on fall workouts, which newcomers are most likely to contend for major roles in 2015?

BD: Based on the fall, Wesley Aschenbrenner – C, Zachary Reboulet – SS, Pat Raiff – OF, “Hammer” Walker – 2B, Trae Coleman – OF, Marcus Spears – OF, Michael Perez – 3B, Brody Gibson – 1B/P, Cody Thompson – RHP, Austin Garland – RHP, WilFredo Colon – LHP, Barrett Walton – RHP, Zachary Chandler – RHP, Rogan Gibosn – RHP, Chance Murphy – RHP are all expected to play a big role in 2015.

PSB: Has there been some big off-the-field news from your program since last season? If so, what?

BD: Ali Williams, former RHP at USC Salkehatchie, was bumped up to Double A this past summer and was invited to Instructional League in Arizona this past fall with the Kansas City Royals Organization.

Next: Southern Wesleyan
