First-year North Greenville coach Landon Powell and Benedict coach Selwyn Young are working to play a game at Carolina Stadium in Columbia April 13. Powell was a three-year standout for the Gamecocks.

State players honored
Pitcher Cordes Baker of Lexington, infielder Donald Gillespie of Flora and outfielder T.J. Hopkins of Summerville are first-team selections on Collegiate Baseball newspaper's preseason high school all-American team. Infielder Grant Cox of Greenville is a second-team choice. John Whittle of TheBigSpur.com reports Hopkins is a USC commitment. TheClemsonInsider.com reports Cox is a Clemson commitment.
