I was busy all day and didn't have a chance to check for news until late. There's a lot of stuff going on. Instead of posting a massive digest about 11 or so, I'm breaking it into two parts to get some out before bedtime for you working folks. Here's part one.
Coaches favor Commodores in SEC
SEC coaches pick defending national champion Vanderbilt to win the conference championship this season. The coaches also picked South Carolina to finish third in the SEC East Division behind Vandy and Florida. USC infielders Max Schrock and D.C. Arendas were voted first team preseason all-conference. The Gamecocks' Kyle Martin and Taylor Widener were second-team selections.

SEC+ not yet available on DirecTV
Dwayne McLemore of The State's GoGamecocks.com site reports that the SEC+ Internet video streams won't be available to DirecTV subscribers until April. That means several South Carolina games won't be accessible for DirecTV subscribers. (A DirecTV customer service rep told me Thursday night the holdup was on ESPN/Disney's end not DirecTV's).

USC called a lock
Eric Sorenson of CollegeBaseballToday.com has South Carolina as one of his five "locks" for Omaha. He also has College of Charleston as one of his five teams "off the radar" to watch. I thought the Cougars got on the radar by reaching the Super Regionals last season.
