* A day after Presbyterian was unable to hold a lead in the ninth inning against No. 7 Central Florida, the Blue Hose rode a seven-run third inning to an 8-6 victory over the Knights on Saturday. It's the highest-ranked team PC has defeated as an NCAA Division I program.
* Clemson's offense came alive in Saturday's 15-8 rout of Virginia Tech. The Tigers lashed 21 hits as they won two straight games for the first time since Feb. 25 and 27 against Wofford and South Caroline respectively.
It also gave Clemson its first ACC series win of the season and kept them three games behind first-place Louisville in the Atlantic Division.
The Tigers also played errorless defense.
* Wofford stretched its winning streak to eight games with an 8-7 win over VMI. The Terriers trailed 5-0 and 7-2 before rallying. The winning run came on a throwing error on a steal of second base in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Terriers go for a series sweep at noon Sunday. The start of the game was moved up an hour to try to avoid weather issues.
* Coastal Carolina extended its winning streak to six games with a 13-3 rout of UNC Asheville.
* The Citadel pushed its winning streak to nine games by beating Maryland Baltimore County in the opener of a doubleheader before losing the nightcap.
* South Carolina couldn't hold an early 2-0 lead and a late 3-2 lead, losing to Missouri, 4-3, in 10 innings. It was the Gamecock's third straight loss and likely will contribute to them falling out of the Top 10 in most national polls.
The Gamecocks had some early offensive success, but couldn't deliver a win for starter Jack Wynkoop.
One positive sign for the Gamecocks was their defense. USC has been averaging more than an error a game, but made several outstanding defensive plays on Saturday.
* USC Sumter moved into a first-place tie with Spartanburg Methodist in the NJCAA Region 10 standings by sweeping USC Salkehatchie while SMC was splitting with USC Lancaster. Both the Fire Ants and Pioneers are 8-2 in region play.
Tyler Thornton, a transfer from College of Charleston, had another complete-game win for SMC.
* Lander, which had lost eight of its last 11 games, got a walk-off home run from Taylor Kellner in the 11th inning to salvage the nightcap of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with Columbus State.
* Because of weather issues Young Harris has moved the start of Sunday's game with Francis Marion up two hours to 11 a.m. Based on how the Patriots hit the ball in Saturday's doubleheader sweep, they'd probably like to start even earlier.
FMU won 14-3 and 13-6. Matt Rubino hit for the cycle and drove in eight runs and Casey Clauss tied school single-game records with five runs and six hits. All six hits were singles, setting a school record.
* Erskine did nothing to hurt its No. 3 national ranking in NCAA Division II, sweeping a doubleheader with Emmanuel to complete a 4-0 week. The Fleet are 25-2 this season.
* Claflin got a pair of last-at-bat victories over Morehouse to improve to 7-1 in the SIAC.
