Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, March 7-13: Lander

Lander (4-0 for the week)
(went 1-0 vs. Emmanuel; went 3-0 vs. Augusta)

Lander was sitting at 8-5 after being swept in a Peach Belt Conference series against USC Aiken.

Since then, the Bearcats have been unbeatable, winning 12 straight games.

They scored seven runs in the eighth inning to win Sunday's series finale over Augusta, 8-4, at Dolny Stadium and run their Peach Belt Conference winning streak to nine games. The weekend results moved them from a third-place tie with USC Aiken to sole possession of second place.

Lander went 52-9 and went to the NCAA Division II World Series in 2014. Some player losses to graduation and others to injuries contributed to a 22-26 record last year, coach Kermit Smith's only losing season in what is now a seven-year tenure.

Based on the results so far, the Bearcats should finish well up on the positive side of the .500 mark this year.
