Planning your weekend, March 24-27

Did I say weekend on a Wednesday night? Yes, I did.

Because of Easter most college baseball teams in the state are not playing on Sunday this week. Many of the NCAA Division I schools are starting their series on Thursday.

The exceptions are Clemson (at Miami), The Citadel (at VMI) and College of Charleston (at home vs. Delaware). They are maintaining the Friday-Sunday setup.

NJCAA Region 10 series have been moved up a day to Friday-Saturday doubleheaders.

Among DI schools, Clemson risks its eight-game winning streak in its ACC series at Miami. The Hurricanes are ranked as high as fourth nationally and trail first-place North Carolina by one game in the Coastal Division. Clemson is ranked as high as 12th nationally and shares first place in the Atlantic Division with Florida State.

South Carolina was one of just two SEC teams to make it through the first weekend of league play unscathed. They'll open a three-game set at Mississippi on Thursday. The Rebels are ranked as high as sixth nationally. USC, which has won 10 straight games, is ranked as high as 10th.

Elsewhere in Division I, Southern Conference play begins. The Samford at Furman and Wofford at Mercer series run Thursday through Saturday. As mentioned above, The Citadel and VMI begin on Friday.

The Big South Conference schedule picks up this week after a soft opening last weekend. Charleston Southern players host to Campbell, Presbyterian is at Gardner-Webb and Winthrop travels to High Point. After going 2-1 in league play last weekend, Coastal  Carolina steps out of conference to play host to Stetson.

Lander's home series with Montevallo matches two teams in the top half of the Peach Belt Conference standings.

Erskine tries to stay near the top of the Conference Carolinas standings, but faces a challenge in a road trip at Mount Olive.

The top series in NJCAA Region 10 may be third-place USC Lancaster's visit to first-place Spartanburg Methodist.
