Planning your week, April 11-17

There are good midweek games and important conference series on tap this week.

* South Carolina and North Carolina will play at BB&T Stadium in Uptown Charlotte Tuesday night. The game is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised on the SEC Network.

 * There are some intriguing midweek pairings of state teams: College of Charleston is at Coastal Carolina and The Citadel visits Winthrop on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Voorhees is at USC Beaufort, Furman visits Presbyterian, Anderson is at Lander, Newberry travels to USC Aiken and Winthrop entertains Wofford.

* SIAC foes Benedict and Claflin will have a nonconference meeting at Fluor Field in Greenville Friday night as part of the Greenville Drive's annual Jackie Robinson Day HBCU Classic. Benedict won two of three over Claflin last week.

* Clemson tries to regain momentum in the ACC with a series at Louisville. Both Clemson and Louisville lost two of three over the weekend to Duke and Miami, respectively. The Tigers trail Atlantic Division leader Miami by three games and are two games back of the Cardinals. N.C. State has a half-game lead over Clemson, but that will change Monday night after the Wolfpack and Wake Forest play. The Tigers tune up for Louisville with a Tuesday home game with Western Carolina.

* South Carolina tries to protect its two-game lead in the SEC East Division with a weekend visit to Georgia.

* After winning two of three at West Virginia in a weekend away from Southern Conference play, Furman will play host to second-place UNC Greensboro its league play next weekend.
an eventful weekend away from UNCG/Furman

* Coming down the stretch of the Conference Carolinas race, Belmont Abbey, Erskine and North Greenville are in first place with 18-3 records. Erskine and Belmont Abbey will have a head-to-head series next weekend while North Greenville is facing Barton.

* USC Beaufort can wrap up The Sun Conference regular-season title with a home series win over Southeastern next weekend. The Fire are in second place, but could create a tie with a sweep in Hardeeville.

* There are three weekend conference series involving state teams: The Citadel is at Wofford, surging Presbyterian travels to Big South Conference leader Coastal Carolina and Anderson is at Newberry.

* USC Sumter's lead over second-place Spartanburg Methodist has been trimmed to one game with eight games left in the league season. Those teams meet for four games next weekend at Mooneyham Field in Spartanburg.
