Planning your week, April 4-10

It's hard to believe, but most of the state's NCAA Division I teams hit the midway point of their schedule over the weekend. NCAA Division II, NAIA and NJCAA teams are already on the downhill side of their season.

* There are five games on Monday's schedule, all makeups of rainouts from over the weekend. Claflin is at SIAC and state rival Benedict for a doubleheader, Southern Wesleyan visits Erskine for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader and Charleston Southern completes its Big South Conference home series with Longwood.

* Winthrop plays Charlotte on Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.

* Clemson makes its annual midweek trip to Athens on Tuesday to play Georgia. The Tigers are at Duke over the weekend.

*  Midweek matchups of state teams include Morris at Voorhees, Francis Marion at North Greenville, Limestone at Anderson, The Citadel at Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina at South Carolina on Tuesday and Claflin at Coker, Presbyterian at USC Upstate and USC Aiken at Newberry on Wednesday.

* After its Tuesday home game with Coastal Carolina, South Carolina has a weekend home series with Tennessee. The Volunteers have one of the top team batting averages in the SEC.

* Wofford and College of Charleston thought outside the box in their scheduling this week. The Terriers play at Baylor on Tuesday and Wednesday, while the Cougars play host to Cal Santa Barbara over the weekend.

* Furman also faces a different opponent from most seasons, visiting West Virginia over the weekend. The Mountaineers are coached by former Clemson player Randy Mazey.

* USC Aiken has expanded its lead in the Peach Belt Conference, but the Pacers face another test this weekend with a series at area rival Augusta. The Jaguars are in second place in the PBC percentage-wise, but trail the Pacers by three games. Lander trails USCA by two games, but has a lower winning percentage than Augusta.

 * The top four teams in NJCAA Region 10 are paired up this week. First-place USC Sumter is at Pitt CC. which shares third place with Florence-Darlington Tech. The Stingers play host to second-place Spartanburg Methodist.
