Friday's highlights, Feb. 17

* Coastal Carolina set an on-campus regular-season by drawing 3,280 fans to Springs Brooks Stadium Friday. The 8-5 win over Richmond kicked off a weekend of celebration of the Chanticleers' NCAA championship in 2016.

* Logan McRae was 4-for-4 and drove in three runs as College of Charleston beat Georgia, 9-3, in Athens.

* Brett Harker won his debut as Furman's head coach when the Paladins beat Dayton, 6-3. The crowd of 601 suggests the veteran Furman squad is stoking excitement among fans. Brandon Elmy, whose 2016 season was cut short by injury, homered and drove in four runs for the Paladins.

* South Carolina paid tribute to recently deceased fan Bill Golding during its 7-1 victory over UNC Greensboro.  Fans were offered a plastic replica construction hat to mimic the plastic batting helmet Golding wore to games. That helmet was mounted in the Gamecocks' dugout. A white flag with the words "Oot, oot" was flown alongside the American and South Carolina flags and fans were encouraged to mimic Golding's "Oot, Oot" cheer in unison after observing a moment of silence.

* A pair of USC transfers helped North Greenville sweep Georgia Southwestern to improve to 8-2 on the season. Clark Scolamiero  singled, doubled twice and drove in four runs in a 16-7 victory in the opener. Canaan Cropper pitched a three-hit complete game in a 5-0 win in the nightcap.

* Clemson lost its fourth consecutive season-opener, falling to Wright State, 6-4. Highly regarded freshman Logan Davidson, son of former Tiger Mark Davidson, had two hits and drove in two runs for the Tigers.

* Coker snapped Erskine's six-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory.

* Garrett Lowery homered twice and drove in six runs as Limestone beat Gannon, 14-9, in the opener of a doubleheader.

* Sam Fragale of Virginia Tech had a double, a triple and three home runs to drive in seven runs as the Hokies beat USC Upstate, 11-3.
