The state's 11 NCAA Division I teams swing into action this weekend, with eight of them at home. There are high expections at Clemson and South Carolina, and Coastal Carolina is aiming to repeat as national champion.
For the past several seasons Coastal has opened its season with a tournament, and that's the case again this season with Caravelle Resort's Baseball at the Beach.
The Citadel has the Charleston Crab House Shootout.
The state's two new head coaches -- Brett Harker at Furman and Adam Ward (interim) at Charleston Southern -- open with home series against Dayton and Delware State, respectively.
Meanwhile, Florence-Darlington Tech plays host to some snowbird teams, as well as USC Lancaster, and Spartanburg Methodist plays three Alabama schools in three days in Wadley, Ala.
One of the top series on the NCAA Division II level will be 7-0 USC Aiken's (No. 10 nationally according to Collegiate Baseball) at No. 33 Mount Olive. The Trojans (4-2) are coming off a pair of losses at No. 20 Florida Southern. Florida Southern is in state at Claflin.
Most of the games involving Division I teams and several Division II schools are available on live (well, 30 seconds or so behind real time) Internet video streams.
