Wrapping up the weekend in S.C. college baseball, Feb. 25

Clemson had an early challenge from a ranked Dallas Baptist team and the Tigers passed the test, winning two blowouts and a one-run game to move to 7-0. Clemson's starting pitchers did not allow a run in the weekend.

* Coastal Carolina won three of four in the Brittain Resorts Invitational to cap a six-game week. The Chanticleers capped the weekend with a seven-run first inning in a 15-5 rout of Virginia Commonwealth.

* Winthrop got its first three victories of the season, sweeping Maryland Eastern Shore.

* South Carolina's offense feasted on Charleston Southern pitching the first two games of their series, but was unable to solve Buccaneers Sunday starter Tyler Weekley and three relievers in a 4-2 loss on Sunday.  Freshman John Gilreath added another 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief for the Gamecocks. He enrolled in December, passing up his senior season at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill.

* North Greenville followed up a midweek sweep of preseason No. 11 (Collegiate Baseball) Northwood with a three-game sweep of Emmanuel to open Conference Carolinas play.

* USC Aiken swept a three-game series over Francis Marion thanks to some Sunday dramatics.  The Pacers trailed 3-0 and 5-3 in the Peach Belt Conference series finale, then saw a 6-5 lead wiped out in the ninth. Brady O'Neill won the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th.

* Limestone won two of three over Erskine in its Conference Carolinas opening series.

* Florence-Darlington Tech gathered some of region's top junior college programs for the second weekend of its Stinger Invitational. Preston McDonald's team was able to to 2-2.

* Spartanburg Methodist (5-1), USC Lancaster (5-1) and USC Sumter (4-1) gave notice that they'll challenge FD Tech for the top spot in NJCAA Region 10 this season.
