Reece Holbrook, son of College of Charleston coach Chad Holbrook, announced on Thursday he has committed to play baseball for the University of North Carolina.
The younger Holbrook was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004. In 2012, Chad Holbrook established the Reece Holbrook Win Anyway Foundation. The organization's Website says it is a "tax exempt nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to kids and their fight against cancer and other terminal illnesses. The foundation provides support for seriously ill children and their families, the facilities that treat them and other charitable causes."
Chad Holbrook, who played and later coached at North Carolina, was an assistant coach and a key recruiter on South Carolina's two College World Series championship teams. He replaced Ray Tanner as USC's head coach after the 2012 season, but resigned after the 2017 season. He then was hired at CofC.
Recent events have allowed me to understand some of what the Holbrooks have gone through. Congratulations to the Holbrooks!
