Clemson opened up Atlantic Coast Conference with a 3-2 win over Georgia Tech at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Seth Beer and Bryce Teodosio homered and Patrick Cromwell broke a 2-2 with an eighth-inning single for the Tigers, who were outhit 8-7. Jacob Hennessy pitched the first seven innings and Ryan Miller closed the game out. The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday in an effort to avoid predicted rainy weather on Sunday.

* North Greenville rode a 16-run third inning to an 18-5 win at Erskine in the opener of a three-game Conference Carolinas series at Due West. Erskine took a 1-0 lead in the second but the Crusaders used 8 hits, 2 errors, 5 walks and a runner reaching base on a wild pitch on strike three to do the damage. Josh Black and Jeffrey Chandler had two hits apiece in the inning. Jack Morris capped the outburst with a home run. USC transfer John Jones also homered for NGU. The teams play twice Saturday.
* Adam Hill struck out nine in five innings and reliever John Gilreath fanned eight in four innings as South Carolina dispatched Princeton, 9-2, to open a three-game series. Hill, a junior from Anderson, has struck out 43 batters in 23 innings. T.J. Hopkins doubled, tripled and walked and Jacob Olson and Matt Williams drove in two runs each for the Gamecocks. Williams' second eight-inning home run in as many Fridays capped a late four-run outburst for USC. The teams will play twice Saturday, as Sunday's schedule game was moved up over weather concerns.
* Matt Lazzaro struck out eight batters in seven inning as Furman beat Michigan State. 3-2, at Fluor Field to push its winning streak to four games. Brandon Elmy had two hits and Ben Anderson hit his third triple of the season for the Paladins.
* Luke Morgan had three hits and Dupree Hart, Luke Manzo and Tommy Richter added two apiece as College of Charleston coasted to a 13-1 over Cal State Bakersfield to open a series at Patriots Point.
* William Kinney and Ben Peden had three hits apiece and Taylor Cothran drove in two runs as The Citadel beat Connecticut, 4-2, to open a three-game series at Joe Riley Park.
* Charlie Carpenter had three hits as USC Upstate topped Pennsylvania, 5-3, at Harley Park. The teams complete the series with a Saturday doubleheader.
* High Point scored two runs in the eighth and five in the ninth to upend Coastal Carolina, 8-5, in the Chanticleer Classic.
* Three USC Aiken pitchers combined for a school-record 20 strikeouts in an 8-2 win over North Georgia to open a Peach Belt Conference series. Zach Rafuse struck out 14 in seven innings. Daniel Wiggins and Freddie Beamon struck out three apiece as each pitched one inning. Jose Bonilla had two homers among his three hits and drove in four runs for the Pacers.
* Newberry caught Lenoir-Rhyne in the South Atlantic Conference standings at 4-3 with an 11-1 win over the Bears in Hickory. The Wolves scored three runs in the first, seven in the second and one in the third. Derek Olenchuck had four hits, while Colin Allman and Tyler White added three apiece.
* Anderson opened its South Atlantic Conference home series with Coker with an 8-2 victory. Brad Odachowski singled, homered and drove in three runs. The teams moved Saturday's doubleheader to 11 a.m. because of weather worries.
* Kelvin Brito's single capped a two-run rally in the final inning as USC Beaufort beat Fisher, 9-4, to open a doubleheader. The Sand Sharks had less trouble in the nightcap, winning 8-4. Noah Matthews, who scored the winning run in the opener, had five hits and drove in five runs on the day.
* Florence-Darlington Tech scored in every inning it batted in a 20-0 over Mercyhurst North East. The Stingers had 18 hits and coaxed 10 walks. Michael Elijah singled, tripled twice, homered and drove in five runs. Josh Gregory singled, doubled, homered and drove in three runs.
* USC Union swept Christendom College, 8-5 and 14-4, in its final tuneup before beginning NJCAA Region 10 play Saturday at USC Sumter.
* Lander's defense struggled for the second straight game and the Bearcats fell at Nova Southeastern 3-2 in 12 innings, to drop its straight game in Florida. The Bearcats committed seven errors in losing Thursday's series opener. They had three more miscues on Friday, including one in the 12th to put the winning run in scoring position. Two Lander pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings.
