Wrapping up Friday's S.C. college baseball, March 30

Three players homered as South Carolina (16-11, 3-5 clinched its first SEC series in a year with a 6-2 win over Tennessee (17-11, 4-4) at Founders Park Friday night.

The Gamecocks lost their final eight series of last season and their first two of this season. Carlos Cortes had a home run among his three hits. Danny Blair and Jacob Olson also homered for Carolina, which got a productive start from Cody Morris. He allowed four hits and a run and struck out five in six innings.

The Gamecocks go for a series sweep and their 10th straight win over UT in Columbia Saturday afternoon.

Elsewhere:
* Clemson (21-6, 7-4) clinched an ACC series win over Boston College (9-15, 4-7) with a 9-4 victory at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers had 10 hits and Brooks Crawford and Ryan Miller struck out five BC batters apiece. Kyle Wilkie had three hits and drove in three runs, Robert Jolly had three hits and Seth Beer singled and homered for the Tigers.

* Tannor Byrd led off the ninth inning with his second home run of the game and gave Presbyterian (9-19, 4-4) an 8-7 walk-off win over Liberty (14-11) to clinch a Big South Conference series win.  Byrd also doubled.

 * Coastal Carolina (21-8. 8-0) used nine extra-base hits to club Georgia Southern (12-14, 5-3), 15-3, and clinch a Sun Belt Conference series victory in Statesboro. Parker Chavers doubled, homered, walked and drove in two runs, Seth Lancaster doubled, homered and walked twice and Kyle Skeels homered for the Chanticleers.

* Adam Scott become Wofford's career strikeouts leader and the Terriers (19-9, 3-2) guaranteed a Southern Conference series win over Western Carolina (3-22, 1-4) with a 5-3 victory at Russell C. King Field. Scott struck out seven Catamounts to moved his career total to 314, passing former teammate Matt Milburn's 307. Max McDougald singled twice, doubled, stole a base and knocked in a run for the Terriers.

* Dylan Spence and Jordan Buster combined for a six-hit shutout as The Citadel (12-12, 3-1) opened a Southern Conference series at VMI (10-13, 1-3) with a 5-0 victory. Six Bulldogs had two hits apiece. William Kinney singled and homered and Bryce Leasure singled, doubled and walked.

* Andres Kim singled twice and drove in three runs and four teammates also collected two hits as USC Upstate (14-13-1, 1-1) evened its Atlantic Sun Conference series with Kennesaw State (14-13, 1-1) with a 9-4 victory .

* College of Charleston (20-7, 3-1) saw its five-game winning streak snapped in a 9-3 loss to Elon (15-11, 3-1) to open a Colonial Athletic Association series. Logan McRae had one of the Cougars' four hits and drove in two runs.

* For the second straight day Samford (14-14, 3-2) came from behind and beat Furman (13-14, 0-2) by a 4-2 score to clinch the Southern Conference series. Furman, which has lost seven straight, scored a run on a wild pitch in the third, but the visiting Bulldogs scored three times in the fourth and were never headed. Bret Huebner had two hits for the Paladins. Samford overcame a 3-0 deficit in the series opener.

* Charleston Southern (9-19, 2-6) couldn't hold an early five-run lead and lost to Longwood (7-17, 2-6), 7-5, to even that Big South Conference series at 1-1. Ryan Rizk had three hits and a walk and Jason Miller had three hits for the Buccaneers, who led 5-0 after two innings.

* Winthrop (16-16, 6-2) suffered its second straight loss to High Point (14-12, 6-2), this time a 12-0 shutout to drop the Big South Conference series. Tyler Halstead singled and doubled for the Eagles, who were held to four hits and committed five errors.

*  Anderson (11-20, 6-11) opened a South Atlantic Conference home series with Catawba (18-17, 12-5) with a doubleheader split. The visitors overcame a six-RBI effort by Matthew Overton by scoring two runs in the ninth for a 9-8 victory, but the Trojans bounced back with an 8-0 victory in Game 2 on a two-hit, eight-strikeout complete game by Andrew Dill.

* Southern Wesleyan (13-22, 2-15) scored five runs in the fourth inning and sixth in the fifth for a 13-5 win over Barton (10-26, 2-12) to salvage a split of their Conference Carolinas doubleheader. Jesse Getford singled, doubled, homered and drove in six runs in the nightcap. The Warriors dropped the opener in 11 innings, 10-5. Julio Justo had forced extra inning with a ninth-inning homer.

* Florence-Darlington Tech (27-10, 8-2) swept a home doubleheader against NJCAA Region 10 rival Spartanburg Methodist (18-19, 6-6). The scores were 5-4 and 12-5.

* USC Sumter (24-12, 10-4) scored twice in the seventh inning of the opener for an 8-7 win over Louisburg (21-12, 6-4), but the Hurricanes rallied late for a 7-3 victory in Game 2.

* USC Union (7-17, 2-10) got its first two NJCAA Region 10 victories in program history with a 6-4, 7-2 doubleheader sweep of USC Lancaster (14-14, 1-9) at Doomsday Corner.

* USC Aiken (20-12, 11-6) lost a season-high third straight game in an 8-3 setback at UNC Pembroke (22-8, 8-8) as the host Braves clinched a Peach Belt Conference series victory. Brian Parreira and Daulton Weeks had two hits apiece for the Pacers.

* Mount Olive (23-8-1, 11-2) was a 3-2 walk-off winner over Erskine (22-12, 8-5) in the Conference Carolinas series opener. Nick Vella's two-out, two-run homer in the ninth had drawn the Flying Fleet even.

* Coker (11-18, 1-15) lost its SAC series opener at Mars Hill (9-20-1, 4-12), 7-5. Conner Bryson had three hits and Brooks Estrada and Larry McCabe homered for the Cobras.
