Wrapping up Saturday, March 3, in S.C. college baseball

Clemson took advantage of the wildness of South Carolina's pitchers and rode a solid effort by its staff to a 5-1 win at Fluor Field in Greenville Saturday, evening the best-of-three series heading into Sunday's finale in Clemson.

Gamecocks starter Cody Morris flirted with disaster frequently during his 3 1/3 inning stint, walking six allowing the first two batters to reach base in each of the four innings. He struck out three straight batters with runners on second and third with none out in the second.

Clemson broke through with a run in the third, but Madison Stokes tied the score in the USC fourth with a home run. The Tigers got two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.

Tigers starter Brooks Crawford left with a runner on and two out in the fifth of a 3-1 game. Mat Clark got the final out of the fifth, then Ryan Miller pitched four shutout innings to close the game out.

South Carolina got two runners on in the ninth, but a double play ended the game.

Kyle Wilkie had two hits and two RBIs, while Patrick Crawford had a hit and two RBIs for Clemson (9-1). Stokes had three hits and Jonah Bride two for South Carolina (7-4)

Carolina pitchers walked 10.
