Freshman Logan Chapman (3-0) struck out six batters and allowed two hits over 6 2/3 innings as South Carolina (21-17, 7-9) rolled past LSU (24-15, 9-7), 11-0 to open an SEC series at Founders Park Friday night.
Carlos Cortes singled, doubled and homered for the Gamecocks and T.J. Hopkins doubled, triples and drove in four runs in his first start since being injured in March.
Madison Stokes, Justin Row and Jacob Olson also had two of USC's 14 hits.
Sawyer Bridges and Hunter Lomas held LSU - ranked in all six major national polls - hitless over the final 2 1/3 innings.
The series continues at 4 p.m. Saturday.

* Logan Davidson broke a tie game with an eighth-inning home run and Chris Williams also went deep later in the inning as Clemson (27-11, 12-7) won the first game of its ACC series at Wake Forest (18-21, 10-9) by a 7-5 count. The Tigers fell behind 5-2 after two innings before rallying to avoid being caught by the Demon Deacons in the Atlantic Division standings. Seth Beer had two hits and drove in two runs. Spencer Strider and Ryan Miller combined for nine strikeouts in seven innings of two-hit relief.
* North Greenville (38-6, 20-3) wrapped up the Conference Carolinas regular-season championship and top seed for the tournament, sweeping Barton by scores of 8-1 and 14-3. Jared Williams and Andrew Plunkett drove in two runs apiece while Blake Hamilton and two relievers combined for a five-hitter in the opener. Coach Landon Powell's Crusaders scored 12 run in the sixth inning of the nightcap. John Jones, Jeffrey Chandler and Ryan Brown homered in the inning.
* Adam Scott struck out nine and allowed four hits in seven shutout innings as Wofford (26-13, 7-3) opened a Southern Conference home series against The Citadel (14-23, 3-7) with a 5-1 victory. Alex Malsch and Andrew Orzel drove in two runs apiece and McClain Bradley and Mack Nathanson had two hits apiece for the Terriers, who took a shutout into the ninth inning.
* Nate Pawelczyk struck out nine batters in eight innings for Winthrop (18-22, 10-6) in a 2-1 win over UNC Asheville (10-27, 5-11) in Rock Hill. Brandon Fite had three hits and stole a base for the Eagles, who scored both runs in the fourth inning.
* Will Wheeler struck out Gage Morey with the bases loaded in the ninth to preserve a 7-6 win over Florida Gulf Coast (25-11, 3-4 Atlantic Sun) for USC Upstate (21-20-1, 4-6). Charlie had three hits for the Spartans, who were outhit 13-8.
* Limestone (20-25, 10-12) rallied from three runs down to upend nationally ranked NCAA Division II power Mount Olive (31-12-1, 6-5), 7-5 to open their Conference Carolinas series in Gaffney. Zach Piazza and Matt Orth homered for the Saints.
* Mitch Spence struck out 12 in a one-hit complete game as USC Aiken (27-16, 18-7) took a 5-0 victory over Lander (14-29, 7-18) to open a Peach Belt Conference series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Jose Bonilla had two hits, Daulton Weeks homered and Phillip Watcher drove in two runs for the Pacers.
* Grayland Fowler had three hits and drove in seven runs for Claflin (14-26, 10-3) and the Panthers cruised to a 16-6 win over Benedict (17-16, 7-8) in the Jackie Robinson Day HBCU Classic at Fluor Field in Greenville. The game drew a crowd of 2,641. Darrell Langston and Eric McElveen also had three hits apiece for Claflin in the SIAC victory. Joseph Macaluso had a single, a triple and two walks for Benedict. Game 2 of the series is set for Sunday at Benedict, with Game 3 planned for Monday at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia.
* Coker (17-24, 6-19) scored four runs in the fifth, six in the sixth and three in the seventh to cruise past Lenoir-Rhyne (26-20, 12-13), 13-7 in SAC play in Hickory. N.C. Larry McCabe had three hits and Charlie Burguieres and Thomas Lopez drove in three runs apiece for the Cobras.
* Tyler Miller was 4-for-5 with a double and drove in three runs as Anderson (21-25, 11-14) pulled within a game of Newberry (24-21, 12-13) in the SAC standings with a 12-8 victory. The Trojans scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Dillon Carpenter, Matthew Overton, Jacob Strange and Joseph Strange homered for Anderson. Kevin Clanton was 4-for-5 with a homer and 5 RBIs for Newberry.
* It was Home Run Derby at Springs Brooks Stadium as Georgia State (19-18, 6-9) hit three solo homers to two for Coastal Carolina (26-14, 12-4) and won by a 3-2 score. Kevin Woodall Jr. and Kyle Skeels had homers for the Chanticleers, who were held to six hits in the opener of a Sun Belt Conference series.
* College of Charleston (27-12, 9-4 scored in the first inning but Hofstra (15-15, 5-8) did all the scoring after that in a 7-1 win to open their CAA series. The loss, coupled with Northeastern's 4-0 win over William & Mary, knocked CofC out of the Colonial Athletic Association lead.
* A nine-run sixth inning carried VMI (20-17, 8-5) to a 12-1 win over Furman (18-20, 3-7) in a Southern Conference series opener in Lexington, Va. Ben Anderson and Landon Kay had doubles for the Paladins' only hits.
