South Carolina (26-18, 11-10) rallied from two late three-run deficits for a 10-9 victory over Vanderbilt (25-18, 11-10) Sunday to take the deciding game of the Southeastern Conference series in Nashville.
The Commodores jumped on the Gamecocks' starting pitchers early for the third straight game, scoring four runs in the second inning.
Carolina scored three runs in the seventh to tie the score at 6-6, only to have Vanderbilt score three in the bottom of the inning. Carlos Cortes tied the score in the eighth with a three-run homer, his team-leading 12th of the year.
After the first two Vandy boys were hit by pitches in the bottom of the eighth, Graham Lawson came in to retire the next three batters -- the final two by strikeout.
Jacob Olson was hit by a pitch to open the USC ninth. He stole second with one out and went to third when a pickoff throw went into center field. Hunter Taylor followed with a sacrifice fly to score Olson. Lawson retired the Commodores in order in the bottom of the inning.
Jonah Bride and Madison Stokes joined Cortes in homering. Five Gamecocks had two hits apiece.
The Gamecocks had rallied from a 7-0 deficit to win Friday night's series opener, 8-7.
Elsewhere:
* Clemson (34-11, 17-7) extended its winning streak to eight games with a 9-8 win over Virginia (24-20, 9-15) for its third straight one-run win in the ACC road series.
The Tigers fell behind 2-0 before scoring five runs in the third inning.
Down 9-4, Virginia rallied in the eighth inning. The Cavaliers drew three walks to open the inning. Two singles, a hit batsman and another walk pulled the Hoos within 9-8 with the bases loaded and one out. Tigers closer Ryley Gilliam got a strikeout, then threw a pitch past catcher Kyle Wilkie. The ball bounced off the wall and right back to Wilkie, who made a lunging tag of Alex Morris at the plate to end the inning. After a video review, the out call was upheld.
Gilliam struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth. He has picked up a save in Clemson's last five ACC games.
Patrick Cromwell, Sam Hall and Chris Williams homered for the Tigers, who now lead N.C. by two games in the Atlantic Division standings.
* Being the home team was great for Coastal Carolina (31-14, 17-4) as it wrapped up a Sun Belt Conference sweep of Louisiana Monroe (18-25, 7-14) with a 17-16 victory. Seth Lancaster's two-run walk-off homer ended the slugfest, which featured seven lead changes.
The Warhawks had a 9-8 lead before Coastal scored six runs in the seventh. ULM tied the score with five in the eighth, only to see the Chanticleers take a 15-14 lead in the bottom of the inning. Each team scored twice in the ninth in the 4:56 game that started at 11 a.m. in an effort to accommodate Monroe's travel plans.
The Chanticleers had 20 hits, including five for Kieton Rivers and three apiece for Lancaster, Kevin Woodall Jr. and Lee Sponseller. Woodall, Sponseller and Parker Chavers joined Lancaster in homering.
* North Greenville (42-6) rolled into the championship round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 20-1 victory over King. Blake Hamilton allowed one hit and struck out eight. Alex Williams singled, doubled, homered and drove in five runs for the Crusaders, who had 20 hits. North Greenville will play at 1 p.m. Monday for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II playoffs. If the Crusaders lose that game, another game would follow.
* Anderson (25-29) fell to Lincoln Memorial, 6-4, and was eliminagted from the South Atlantic Conference Tournament. Jackson Strange had a two-run homer for the Trojans. Earlier in the game. Anderson stayed alive with a 10-inning 7-6 victory over Tusculum. Dillon Carpenter's single ended the game.
* College of Charleston (30-15, 12-6) got a double from Ari Sechopoulos in the bottom of the 11th inning for a 3-2 win over Delaware (22-20, 7-8) and a sweep of their Colonial Athletic Association series. The Cougars trailed 2-0 until Danny Wondrack's double tied the score in the sixth. Wondrack was hit by a pitch with one out in the 11th to start the winning rally. Nathan Ocker pitched 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief for the College.
* UNC Greensboro (31-11, 12-3) took the rubber game of its Southern Conference series at Wofford (29-16, 10-5) with an 11-2 victory at Russell C. King Field. The Spartans outhit the Terriers 17-5 as they pushed their lead over the Terriers and Samford to two games with ninth league games remaining.
* Jordan Beatson pitched six inning of two-out shutout ball for Furman (21-23, 6-9) in a 6-1 victory over The Citadel (15-27, 4-11) in the decisive game of the Southern Conference series in Charleston. Freshman Ben Anderson hit hits school-record-tying sixth triple of the year and drove in two runs. Jake Crawford singled and homered for Furman. Taylor Cothran had a single, a double and an RBI for The Citadel, which committed four errors.
* Blake Whitney pitched a three-hit complete game for USC Upstate (22-24-1, 5-10) and the Spartans salvaged their final game of their Atlantic Sun Conference series at Lipscomb 18-24, 6-9) by a 2-0 score. Both Austin Morgan and Mason Stewart had two hits and an RBI for Upstate. Whitney struck out eight and walked two.
* Nile Goings homered twice for USC Aiken (31-17, 22-8) and the Pacers beat Flagler (30-20, 16-14), 8-4, to take their Peach Belt Conference series. Jose Bonilla singled and homered and Daulton Weeks singled twice and walked twice for USCA, which has clinched second seed for the PBC Tournament
* Lander (16-32, 9-21) clinched the final seed for the PBC Tournament with a 7-3 win over North Georgia (29-18, 16-11) for a 2-1 series win. The Bearcats won the tiebreaker with Francis Marion by virtue of a series sweep head-to-head. Mike Fitschen had two hits and drove in four runs for Lander.
* USC Sumter (31-20) reached the 30-win mark for the 10th time in the 11-year histor of the program with a doubleheader sweep of USC Salkehatchie (24-29) in games that did not count in the NJCAA Region 10 standings. The Fire Ants won the opener 20-4 and the nightcap 8-1.
