Wrapping up Saturday's games, April 14

College of Charleston (27-9, 9-2) tightened its hold on first place in the Colonial Athletic Association by rallying for a 5-4 victory over Northeastern (18-13, 5-3) Saturday at Patriots Point.

The Cougars fell behind 2-0 on a pair of Northeastern home runs in the second inning, but scored three runs in the third on an Ari Sechopoulos homer and a two-run single by Clay Hunt.

Trailing 4-3 in the sixth, the College's Luke Manzo singled to tie the score. Dupree Hart singled in Manzo in the eighth for the winning run.

Nathan Ocker pitched four innings of three-hit, shutout relief for CofC. Five Cougars had two hits apiece.

The teams will play the series finale at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Elsewhere:
* Coastal Carolina (26-12, 12-3) bounced back from a tough Friday night loss at Troy with a pair of one-run victories over the Trojans (23-12, 8-7).  The Chanticleers scored two in the ninth for a 3-2 win in the opener, then held on for a 5-4 win in the nightcap after scoring five runs in the first inning.  Lee Sponseller had a grand slam for Coastal in Game 2.

* Wofford (25-12, 5-3) won a Southern Conference series at Furman (17-19, 3-6) by sweeping a doubleheader, 13-5 and 5-2. Colin Davis doubled, homered, walked and drove in five runs in the opener. In the nightcap, the Terriers rallied after spotting the Paladins two runs in the first inning. Mack Nathanson and Cody Miller both singled and homered. Jake Hershman pitched 4 2/3 innings of shutout relief for the Terriers.

* Clemson (26-10, 11-7) salvaged Game 3 of its home series with Miami (15-20, 9-9), riding Chris Williams' second grand slam in as many days to an 8-2 win after the Hurricanes won Game 1 of the Saturday twinbill, 6-1. Seth Beer had two hits for the Tigers in the opener. In Game 2, Clemson trailed 2-0 before it erupted for seven runs in the fifth.

* South Carolina (20-16, 6-9) got outstanding pitching in both games at Arkansas (27-10, 10-5), but the Razorbacks' arms were even better and the Hogs took a 2-0, 3-0 sweep of a pair of seven-inning games. The Gamecocks didn't have a baserunner until Justin Row's leadoff single in the seventh of the opener. Adam Hill and two relievers held the Razorbacks to four hits in the opener. Row had two of the Gamecocks' three hits in the nightcap, where Cody Morris and two relievers held Arkansas to four hits. Carson Shaddy homered in both games for the Hogs.

* USC Upstate (18-20-1, 3-6) got an Atlantic Sun Conference sweep of New Jersey Tech (14-14, 3-6). The scores were 9-7 and 9-1. Toran Shahidi had three hits in both games for the Spartans. Blake Whitney struck out eight in seven innings in the nightcap.

* First-place North Greenville (35-6, 18-3) completed a Conference Carolinas series sweep of Limestone (18-23, 9-12) with a doubleheader sweep, 7-3 and 6-4. Ryan Brown singled and doubled in the opener and homered twice and doubled in Game 2.

* Daulton Weeks had three hits in each game as USC Aiken (26-15, 17-7) swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Young Harris (22-20,14-13). The Pacers took Game 1, 6-5, and scored a pair of runs in the 10th to take the second game, 6-4.

* Southern Wesleyan (17-28) swept a nonconference home doubleheader with Toccoa Falls, 5-1 and 7-4. Quinton Bent had two singles, a double and a home run to drive in three runs in Game 2 on Senior Day.

* Claflin (13-25, 9-4) stayed in the thick of the SIAC East Division race with a 3-1, 7-3 doubleheader sweep of Clark Atlanta (11-22, 4-11). Dillon Parker pitched a complete game and struck out 11 in Game 1 and Cleveland Westbrook struck out nine in going the distance in the second game.

* Dax Roper had two hits in each game and Florence-Darlington Tech (33-11, 13-3) moved into sole possession of first place in NJCAA Region 10 with a 3-1, 4-2 doubleheader sweep of Louisburg (24-17, 8-8). The Stingers had been percentage points ahead of USC Sumter (31-16, 14-6), which does not have a region series this weekend. FD Tech pitchers threw a pair of four-hitters and did not allow an earned run in the doubleheader. Weston Rogers pitched a complete game in Game 2.

* USC Salkehatchie (24-23, 11-7) moved into third place in Region 10 by virtue of a 5-1, 6-4 sweep at USC Union (10-23, 2-16). The second game went eight innings.

* USC Lancaster (19-18, 5-11) and Spartanburg Methodist (22-22, 7-9) split a twinbill at Mooneyham Field in Spartanburg. The Lancers won Game 1, 5-1, with a four-run eighth inning behind home runs by Walker McDowell and Jackson Barrett. Game 2 went to the Pioneers, 7-3. as Nick Hoffman drove in three runs and Daniel Blair struck out 12 in seven innings.

* Ben Peden singled, tripled and drove in three runs as The Citadel (14-21) beat Towson (10-24), 4-3, in the second game of a doubleheader after being shut out, 6-0, in the opener.

* Dillon Carpenter singled, doubled and homered twice to drive in seven runs for Anderson
(18-24, 10-14) in an 18-7 pasting of Mars Hill to begin a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.  The Lions won Game 2. 5-4.

* Newberry (23-20,12-12) upended nationally ranked Wingate (33-12, 16-8) to open their SAC doubleheader, 4-3, on a walk-off wild pitch. Colin Allman drove in the first three Wolves runs. A five-run ninth sparked the visitors to a 13-9 win in the second game.

* Erskine (24-20, 10-10) salvaged the final game of its Conference Carolinas series at Emmanuel (16-21, 6-14) with a 12-9, victory. Austin Mapes homered twice and drove in four runs for the Flying Fleet.

* Nathan Schreckengost had five hits -- homering in each game -- and drove in seven runs as Lander (13-27, 7-17) split a Peach Belt Conference twinbill with Georgia Southwestern (8-30, 4-20). The Bearcats lost the opener, 12-7, before winning Game 2, 6-2.

* Bryson Conner had three hits and delivered a walk-off single for Coker (15-23, 5-19) as it won Game 2 of a SAC doubleheader with Tusculum (22-12, 13-11) by an 8-7 score. The Pioneers won Game 1, 18-2.

* USC Beaufort (19-24, 5-14) split a Sun Conference doubleheader at Ave Maria (15-31, 4-17). The Sand Sharks won the opener, 5-4, and lost Game 2, 10-5. Keith Olmo had six hits on the day.
