Jason Bilous allowed two hits and struck out 11 in seven innings Friday as Coastal Carolina (34-16, 19-6) won the opener of a Sun Belt Conference home series with Little Rock (26-21, 14-10) by a 4-0 score.
Cory Wood and Seth Lancaster opened the bottom of the first with back-to-back doubles and the Chanticleers were never headed.
Matt Eardensohn pitched the final two innings for the Chanticleers. Parker Chavers homered for Coastal.
Elsewhere
* Jack McLaughlin singled, doubled, homered, walked, scored twice and drove in two runs as Presbyterian (14-35, 7-5) beat Longwood (15-33, 7-15), 5-3, in the opener of a Big South Conference series in Clinton. Michael Varga had two hits and Andrew Bladt also drove in two runs for PC.
* South Carolina (28-21, 13-12) dropped its third straight game when it suffered a 5-3 loss to Missouri (31-18, 10-15) in the opener of a Southeastern Conference series at Founders Park. The Tigers scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to wipe out a 1-0 Gamecocks lead. Hunter Taylor had a two-run homer in the eighth inning for Carolina, which left 10 men on base. Jonah Bride, Noah Campbell and L.T. Tolbert had two hits apiece for USC.
* Seth Beer hit his 16th home run of the season, but Clemson (37-13) lost the opener of a nonconference home series with Austin Peay (30-20), 6-3. The Governors were outhit, 12-10, but hit three home runs. Logan Davidson and Kyle Wilkie had three hits apiece for Clemson and Beer added a single to his home run.
* Winthrop (22-26, 13-9) missed a chance to close the gap with to first-place Campbell (28-20, 18-4)
by suffering a 6-1 loss to the Camels in the first game of a Big South Conference series. Former Florence-Darlington Tech standout Tyler Anshaw gave Campbell a 2-0 lead with a first-inning single. Cale Gibson doubled twice and drove in the Eagles' run.
* VMI (25-21, 11-8) pulled even with Wofford (31-20, 11-8) in the Southern Conference standings with a 12-4 victory to begin their series in Lexington, Va. Colin Davis' two-run homer put the Terriers ahead in the second inning, but the Keydets scored five runs in the third and three in the fourth to take control. Davis and Brett Rodriguez had three hits apiece for Wofford.
* East Tennessee State (26-19, 10-9) hit six home runs and coasted to a 15-2 victory over Furman (22-26, 7-12) in the first game of a Southern Conference series in Johnson City, Tenn. Jason Costa homered to drive in Furman's runs.
* Southern Conference leader UNC Greensboro (35-12, 16-3) coasted past The Citadel (17-30, 6-13), 14-5, in the first game of their series at Joe Riley Park. Jeffery Brown had four hits for the Bulldogs. Three teammates added two hits apiece.
* Chandler Redmond hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give Gardner-Webb (27-22, 12-10) a 7-4 victory over Charleston Southern (15-32, 6-16) in a Big South Conference game in Boiling Springs, N.C. Christian Maggio had three hits and drove in two runs and Kyle Vesnesky added two hits for the Buccaneers.
* Jacksonville (32-17, 9-6) scored twice in the 11th inning to take a 5-3 victory over USC Upstate (23-25-1, 5-11) in the opener of their Atlantic Sun Conference series in Spartanburg. Russell Schwertfeger had three hits and Toran Shahidi chipped in two for the Spartans.
Peach Belt Conference Tournament
* Both USC Aiken (33-18) and Lander (16-33) lost in first-round games of the eight-team pool play event in St. Augustine, Fla.
Aiken, the No. 2 seed, was knocked off by No. 7 Young Harris (26-22), 3-0, in the first round of Pool B play. The Pacers play twice Saturday and must win both to have a chance to reach Sunday's championship game.
Lander (16-33) was a 9-6 loser to top seed Georgia College (40-10) in Pool A. Nathan Schreckengost singled and homered to drive in three runs and Carson Jones had a three-run homer for the Bearcats. A seven-run second inning for Georgia College erased an early 1-0 Lander lead. The Bearcats also must win twice Saturday to have a chance to reach the finals.
NJCAA regionals
* Monroe Community College wrapped up the Region 15 championship and host role for the Eastern District Tournament with a 10-1 victory over ASA in New Rochelle, N.Y., to take the best-of-five playoff series, 3-0. ASA also advanced to the district tournament.
* Harford Community College moved into the championship round of the Region 20 Tournament with a 9-5 win over Chesapeake. Later in the day, Chesapeake defeated Hagerstown, 9-2, to advance to a Saturday rematch with Harford. Chesapeake must win two games to advance to the Eastern District Tournament, while Harford needs just one win.
* USC Sumter, the Region 10 Tournament champion, will be the fourth team in the district tournament.
