Gamecocks head to super regional at Arkansas

South Carolina (36-24) won the Greenville (NC) Regional Monday with an 8-4 victory over UNC Wilmington (39-23) at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

The Gamecocks advance to play Arkansas  in a best-of-three super regional at Fayetteville this weekend. The winner qualifies for the College World Series.

Carolina had 15 hits, drew seven walks and had three players hit by pitch, but were frustrated by the Seahawks' pitching staff for much of the game.

With USC leading 4-3, Madison Stokes gave his team some breathing room with a two-run double in the seventh inning. Jonah Bride added a two-run homer in the ninth.

Meanwhile, Carmen Mlodzinski pitched into the sixth inning, leaving after allowing a two-run homer to former Gamecocks recruit Kep Brown.  Eddy Demurias got the Gamecocks to the ninth and Sawyer Bridges finished out the game.

Carlos Cortes had four hits, while Bride, Stokes, Jacob Olson and L.T. Tolbert added two apiece.

USC's Danny Blair was named most valuable player of the regional and was joined on the all-regional team by Cortes, Tolbert, Justin Row and Cody Morris.
