S.C. college baseball roundup, Friday, June 1

Clemson Regional
* Jordan Greene singled in Drew Wharton in the 10th inning to give Clemson (46-14) a 4-3 win over Morehead State Friday night in a weather-delayed opening-round game of the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers fell behind 2-0 in the second inning on a pair of unearned runs. Seth Beer got one run back in the fifth with his 21st home run in the season. After the Eagles (37-25) scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, the Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.

Drew Wharton opened the Clemson 10th with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Patrick Cromwell. Greene then delivered the decisive hit into left field to put the Tigers into a 7 p.m. Saturday game against Vanderbilt.

Greene, Wharton, Justin Hawkins and Kyle Wilkie had two hits apiece for Clemson. Wilkie extended his hitting streak to 26 games.

Clemson survived making three errors.

* In the other first-round game, Vanderbilt (32-25) shut out St. John's (39-16), 2-0

Conway Regional
* Kieton Rivers had a two-run double and a three-run homer to pace Coastal Carolina (43-17) to a 16-1 win over LIU Brooklyn at Springs Brooks Stadium.

The Chanticleers scored two runs in the second and five apiece in the fourth and five innings.

Seth Lancaster added his 20th homer of the season for the Chanticleers, who will play Washington on Saturday. Kyle Skeels also homered.

Anthony Veneziano pitched seven shutout innings for Coastal.

* No. 3 seed Washington upended No. 2 Connecticut, 7-1, in the other first-round game.

Greenville Regional
* Danny Blair's three-run homer in the seventh inning wiped out a two-run deficit and started South Carolina (34-24) toward an 8-3 win over Ohio State (36-23) to advance to a Saturday game with host East Carolina at Clark-LeClair Stadium..

Gamecocks starter Adam Hill labored through four innings, throwing 92 pitches and leaving down 1-0 after walking the first batter of the fifth.  The Buckeye loaded the bases in the fifth before Eddy Demurias got out of the inning unscathed.

Carolina, meanwhile, was unable to crack OSU starter Connor Curlis over six innings.

After the Buckeyes added an unearned run with some two-out magic in the seventh, they brought in standout closer Seth Kinker in the bottom of the inning.  Hunter Taylor and Jacob Olson greeted Kinker with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice bunt, Danny Blair - brought into the game for defensive purposes - lofted his second homer of the season to give Carolina the lead. Justin Row added a two-run single later in the inning.

USC added three runs in the eighth and withstood an unearned run by OSU to end the game.  Row and Carlos Cortes each had three of Carolina's 14 hits.

Demurias and Graham Lawson combined to pitch the final five innings without allowing an earned run.

* East Carolina coasted past UNC Wilmington, 16-7, in the second game of the first round.
