Sunday's S.C. college baseball roundup, June 3

Greenville Regional
* South Carolina's first game in the championship round of the regional was postponed until Monday because Sunday's first game between East Carolina and UNC Wilmington was interrupted by a long rain delay.

UNC Wilmington did all of its scoring in the fifth inning of a 9-7 victory to eliminate the host Pirates. While that game was   still in progress, the USC game postponement was announced.

The Gamecocks and Seahawks (39-22) will play at 1 p.m. Monday.  A Carolina win would send USC to a super regional at Arkansas. If UNCW wins, the teams would play a winner-take-all game at approximately 5 p.m.

Clemson Regional
* Vanderbilt hit a school-record nine home runs in a 19-6 pasting of Clemson (47-16) to win the regional and a trip to the super regional round.

Connor Kaiser had three home runs and a school-record 10 RBIs for the Commodores. Stephen Scott and Philip Clark hit two homers apiece for Vandy (34-25).

Kyle Wilkie and Chris Williams homered for Clemson, which fell behind 5-0 and never got closer than three runs after that. Wilkie extended his hitting streak to 29 games.

* The Tigers reached the game with Vanderbilt by eliminating St. John's 9-8. Clemson fell behind 3-0 in the first inning before taking a 9-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth. The Red Storm scored four runs before Ryley Gilliam got the final out. Seth Beer homered, while Jordan Greene, Drew Wharton and Kyle Wilkie had two hits apiece for the Tigers.

The Commodores will play the winner of the Tallahassee Regional, either Mississippi State or Oklahoma, in the super regional round.

Conway Regional
* Coast Carolina's season came to an end with a 6-5 loss to Connecticut at Springs Brooks Stadium. The Chanticleers (43-19) rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie the score in the top of the eighth. But the Huskies' Christian Fedko hit a two-out homer to left field for the eventual winning run. Zach Biermann had a homer and two singles to drive in four runs. Cory Wood had two hits for Coastal.

* Later, Washington got a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the eighth and beat Connecticut, 9-6, to win the regional championship. The Huskies will play the winner of the Stanford Regional, either Cal State Fullerton or Stanford, in the super regional round.
