Saturday's S.C. college baseball roundup, Feb. 9

North Greenville got a walk-off homer in the opener and cruised in the nightcap of a doubleheader sweep of Newberry Saturday at Dillard Field. The Crusaders won the opener, 7-5, on Jeffrey Chandler Jr's home run and took Game 2, 13-5.

Chandler's homer was his fourth hit of the game for the Crusaders (4-2). Adam Sasser had two homers in Game 2, when North Greenville scored five runs in the first and cruised from there.

Aidan Baur had two doubles and a single to drive in three runs for the Wolves (3-4) in the opener.

Elsewhere
* Joey Smithers, Conner Durden and Blake Jenkins had three hits apiece as USC Aiken (5-1) clinched a series win over Shepherd with a 10-5 victory.

* Francis Marion (4-2) swept a doubleheader at Augusta, winning the opener, 17-8 and Game 2, 7-1. College of Charleston transfer Nick Pappas drove in five runs in the first game and Weston Rogers allowed two hits and a run over eight innings in the second game.

* Erskine (7-1) picked up a pair of lopsided victories over West Liberty, 18-6 and 15-6, at Grier Field. The Flying Fleet had 10 extra-base hits as part of a 13-hit attack in the opener. They added 18 hits in Game 2. Kyle Heiss homered twice in the opener, while Cole Warken had seven hits for the twinbill.

* USC Salkehatchie (2-5) beat New River, 17-0 and 13-0, in a pair of games halted after five innings because of the run rule. Jordan Jeter reached base five times and drove in three runs in the opener. He reached base three more times in the nightcap in Allendale.

* Leadoff batter Bailey Connell reached base five times and scored three runs as Lander (3-3) beat Millersville for the second straight day, 8-6. Connell singled, doubled, homered, walked twice, stole a base and drove in two runs at Dolny Stadium.

* Gerardic Dobbs and Eric McElveen had three hits and two RBIs apiece as Claflin (4-2) clinched a series win over Salem with an 8-1 victory at Historic Mirmow Stadium. Makai  Holloway pitched the final six innings for the Panthers, allowing five hits and an unearned run. He came in with the bases loaded and none out in the fourth inning of a 2-0 game and retired the next three Salem batters. Edzaviah Paul also had three hits for the Panthers.

* Florence-Darlington Tech bounced back from suffering its first loss of the season on Friday to beat Broward, 13-7, in the Capital City Bank Classic in Palakta, Fla. The Stingers (5-2) followed that with a 7-2 loss to Gulf Coast State.

* USC Lancaster (3-2) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Southeastern CC, 5-4, at Doomsday Corner in a rare night game. Sam Hill's single tied the score and Daniel Wetmore's single won the game.

*  Dillon Carpenter doubled, tripled, scored two runs and drove in two as Anderson (4-3) beat Alabama Huntsville, 6-1, to secure a doubleheader split at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Huntsville won the opener, 7-1. Chandler Castleberry also had two hits and two RBIs for the Trojans in their home field win.

* Chase Bruno's seventh-inning walk-off single gave Coker (4-5-1) a 4-3 win over Kentucky Wesleyan in Game 2 of a doubleheader after the Cobras dropped Game 1, 8-0, in Hartsville.

* Jarred Jones got the win and  doubled, homered, walked twice, scored four runs and drove in four as Southern Wesleyan (2-4) took the rubber game of a series at Trinity Baptist with a 15-0 victory. The Warriors had lost the opener, 10-1. Jones struck out nine batters in four innings to get the victory in Game 2.

* Spartanburg Methodist (4-3) won the opener of a doubleheader at East Georgia, 3-1, before being shut out in the second game, 3-0. Jordan Jackson struck out seven batters in six innings for the Pioneers in the opener. Houston Wright had three hits in the nightcap, but SMC lost to East Georgia for the third time in four games this week.

* USC Sumter (3-2) lost both ends of a doubleheader with Division II junior college power Pitt CC,  15-0 and 4-2.

* Kentucky State used an eight-run eighth to beat Voorhees 11-3 in the opener of a doubleheader in Denmark. Darkness halted the second game after eight innings as a 3-3 tie. Voorhees fell to 1-2-1.

* USC Union opened its season by losing a pair of games to Catawba Valley, 8-2, and 10-8. Daiquon Davenport singled, homered, walked, stole three bases, scored three runs and drove in two in Game 2.
