Sunday's S.C. college baseball roundup, Feb. 3

Joey Tepper's single capped a two-run ninth-inning rally Sunday  as Spartanburg Methodist beat Patrick Henry, 7-6, to complete a three-game series sweep at Mooneyham Field.

Coach Tim Wallace's Pioneers (3-0) had leads of 1-0 and 5-1, only to have the Patriots rally to tie. A homer gave Patrick Henry a 6-5 lead in the eighth. SMC tied the score on an error, then Tepper delivered the game-ending hit.

Pioneers starter Nate Wright struck out seven and allowed three hits and an unearned run in five innings.

Kobe Phillips had a two-run homer and Houston Wright singled, doubled and walked for the Pioneers.

Elsewhere:
* Alex Mills' third single of the game scored Trey Polewski to five USC Aiken (3-0) a 6-5 walk-off win over Lincoln Memorial. The Pacers led 4-0 after two innings, but the Railsplitters used a three-run seventh to take a 5-4 lead. USCA tied the score on a pinch-hit single by Scott Huntley in the bottom of the inning. Chandler Rogers led off the the Aiken ninth with his third hit of the game and later came around to score.

* Florence-Darlington Tech completed a 4-0 opening weekend with a pair of one-run victories over Roane State. The scores were 2-1 and 5-4.

* Tyler Mangum and Payton Young homered as USC Sumter (3-0) completed a series sweep at Southeaster CC with an 8-7 victory.

* Coker beat Chowan, 7-3, in Game 1 for its first victory of the season, but Chowan took the nightcap. 8-3, and claimed the series, 2-1, with a tie. The Cobras' R.J. Ball was 5-for-6 for the day.

* USC Lancaster got a two-run single from Bobby Crisp in the sixth inning and held on for a 2-1 victory over Wake Tech to split a doubleheader and four-game series. The Lancers dropped Sunday's opener, 3-2, in 11 innings.

* Lander and North Greenville completed their stints in an elite Division II tournament in Tampa with losses. The Bearcats fell to Mount Olive, 16-4, and the top-ranked Crusaders lost to No. 2 Tampa, 5-2.
