Tuesday's S.C. college baseball roundup, Feb. 5

Drew Yniesta's two-run double highlighted a four-run fifth inning and Erskine went on to beat USC Aiken, 7-5, in a nonconference game at Grier Stadium in Due West on Tuesday.

Trey Polewski's three-run homer in the fourth inning staked the visiting Pacers (3-1) to a 4-2 lead before the Flying Fleet (4-1) rallied in their home opener.

Joey Smithers had four hits for Aiken, which got the potential tying run on base in the ninth before Erskine's Trey Watts closed the game out.

Corey Everett and Cole Warken homered for Erskine.

Elsewhere:
* Danton Hyman had four hits, including a bases-loaded triple in a nine-run seventh, as Newberry smacked Francis Marion, 13-7, at the Smith Road Complex. The Wolves (3-1) had a 4-3 lead before their big inning.

Tomas Sorcia Jr. struck out seven and allowed three runs (one earned) in going the first 6 1/3 innings for Newberry.

Cole Hinnant had three singles for Francis Marion (2-2) and is hitting .550 (11-for-20) to start the season.

* Grant Thompson had three hits and Larry McCabe's three-run double in the third inning broke a 2-2 tie as Coker beat St. Andrews, 11-3, to win its home opener at Thomas J. New Field in Hartsville. Chase Bruno, Lake Lybrand and Evan Pawlowski had two hits apiece for the Cobras (2-2-1).

* Benjamin Huber singled, doubled and drove in three runs as Limestone (2-3) beat Queens, 9-4, at Intimidators Stadium in Kannapolis, N.C.  Jeff Towle doubled in a run in the second and Huber had a three-run double in a four-run third. Ryan Creps tripled and homered for the Saints.

* Young Harris forced extra inning with a five-run eighth and went on to beat Anderson, 13-10, in 14 innings at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The Trojans built a 9-2 lead after three innings, but the Lions chipped away at the deficit. Dillon Carenter had two hits and three walks for the Trojans (3-1).
