Voorhees College has made a coaching change mid-season and former Tigers coach Adrian West has reassumed duties as head coach, based on information on the school's Website.
Several e-mails to coach John Gauntlett over the last few weeks were rejected by the school's e-mail server. The address was working earlier this year.
Another coach not directly affiliated with the school told me a change had been made, but e-mails to West and another person in the athletics department at Voorhees have yet to be answered.
A check of the 2018-19 schedule on the school Website this morning shows West as the head coach. That was not the case earlier.
West was head coach at Voorhees when I started this blog prior to the 2009 season. Voorhees dropped baseball for one season - I believe it was in 2012 - because of participation issues.
The program was revived under former Claflin player Robert Platts, who stabilized the program and made it competitive.
Justin Thomas replaced Platts and led Voorhees to a school-record 20 victories in 2017. He left after the 2018 season to become head coach at Bethany (W. Va.) and Gauntlett was promoted from assistant coach to head coach prior to the beginning of this season.
Voorhees has a 1-6-2 record and is scheduled to have a home series against Trinity Baptist beginning today.
