USC Lancaster (went 3-0)
(beat Pfeiffer JV; went 2-0 vs. Spartanburg Methodist)
USC Lancaster was one of the state's hottest teams over the first half of the season, fashioning a 15-game winning streak between Feb. 3 and March 16.
The Lancers hit tough times, losing seven straight game between March 31 and April 10.
But USCL finished strong, knocking off NJCAA Region 10 regular-season champ Spartanburg Methodist twice to end league play. Jackson Barrett completed Saturday's doubleheader sweep with a walk-off homer.
By my calculations, the sweep moved the coach Nick Calhoun's squad past USC Sumter into fourth place in the final region standings. The league tournament begins May 3 in Lexington, with the official pairings to be announced later this month.
