Wofford (27-20, 9-6) lashed out 23 hits and coasted to a 17-7 win at The Citadel (10-34, 3-13) in the opener of a Southern Conference series at Joe Riley Park Friday night.
It was The Citadel's 14th straight loss.
Colin Davis, John Dempsey and Andrew Orzel had four hits apiece, while Mike Brown and Hudson Byorick added three each.
The Terriers' Reece Maniscalco struck out 10 in five innings of four-hit relief to get the win.
Tournaments
* SIAC - Benedict (14-20) lost to Miles, 8-3, to be eliminated. The Tigers have lost eight straight games.
* NJCAA Region 10 - USC Sumter (26-22) pulled away for a 12-4 win over USC Lancaster (29-15) in a tournament thrown behind schedule because of rain and lightning delays. Louisburg (25-18) scored a run in the 11th inning for an 8-7 win over USC Union (10-19). Florence-Darlington Tech (40-12) took the lead with three runs in the fifth and went on a 9-4 win over USC Salkehatchie (13-39). Friday's scheduled Game 4 between USC Sumter and top-seeded Spartanburg Methodist was postponed until 10 a.m. Saturday.
* Independent Schools - Claflin (24-15) lost to Bluefield State, 13-6, and fell to 1-2 in pool play of the event in Marion, N.C.
Elsewhere:
* Winthrop (26-16, 23-6) moved percentage points ahead of Radford into second place in the Big South Conference with a 5-3 win at Presbyterian (21-24, 11-8). Grant English singled, homered and drove in three runs for the Eagles. Zach Peek struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings.
* Andres Kim went 3-for-3 and walked twice as USC Upstate (21-22) coasted to a 9-2 win over Alabama State to open a nonconference series in Spartanburg. Jordan Marks struck out six batters in seven innings for the Spartans.
* Anthony Veneziano of Coastal Carolina (26-19-1, 11-10) and Jack Burk of Louisiana (21-27, 9-13) matched zeroes for four innings before the Ragin' Cajuns pulled away for a 10-0 win in the opener of a Sun Belt Conference series in Conway. The Chanticleers remained a half-game behind Georgia Southern (12-10 conference) and tied with Appalachian State (11-10) for second place, Troy (10-11) pulled within a game/
* South Carolina (24-21, 6-16) set season highs for runs and hits in SEC play ... and still lost by 11 runs. The Gamecocks took an early four-run lead before Vanderbilt (36-9, 16-6) roared back for a 22-11 victory in the opener of their series. The Commodore scored seven runs in the fourth to take an 8-5 lead, but USC tied the score in the bottom of the inning. A nine-run sixth and a five-run seventh allowed Vanderbilt to go on cruise control. Vanderbilt only had 15 hits, but put 11 walks and two hit batmen from Gamecocks pitchers to effective use. Luke Berryhill and Jacob Olson homered for Carolina, which remained tied with Alabama and Kentucky for the final slot in the SEC Tournament with eight league games remaining.
* USC Aiken (28-20, 17-11) moved past Young Harris (31-17, 15-11) into third place in the Peach Belt Conference with a 6-0 victory to open their series in Aiken. Chandler Rogers went five-for-five and Mitch Spence struck out 10 in seven innings for the Pacers.
* Leniel Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the four-run seventh as Francis Marion (26-19) rallied past Mount Olive (31-16), 4-1 in the first of two meetings between the teams this month.
* Last-place William & Mary (26-19, 8-11) rouged up College of Charleston (28-17, 10-6) pitcher for five runs in four innings and beat the Cougars, 5-1, to open their Colonial Athletic Association series. Chaz Davey had two of the College's five hits. The Cougars fell 5 1/2 games behind first-place Elon, but remained three games up on third-place UNC Wilmington.
* Josh Hollifield's fifth-inning double broke a 2-2 tie and VMI (14-33, 8-11) pulled away to a 10-4 win over Furman (18-26, 7-9) to open their Southern Conference series in Greenville. Dax Roper doubled, tripled and walked and Bret Huebner had two hits and two RBIs for the Paladins,
* First-place Campbell (26-15, 14-4) rolled to a 14-0 win over Charleston Southern (16-29, 6-13) to open their Big South Conference series. The Buccaneers were held to fdour singles.
