Saturday's S.C. college baseball roundup, May 11

Clemson (30-21, 13-13) evened its ACC record and its series at N.C. State (38-14, 15-11) with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings Saturday in Raleigh.

Kyle Wilkie had a one-out double and Chad Fairey and Sam Hall delivered two-out singles to get Wilkie in. Carson Spiers pitched three shutout innings in relief to get the win.

* South Carolina (26-24, 7-19) got 11 two-out hits and hit three home runs in an 11-3 win over Kentucky (24-26, 6-20) to clinch its first SEC series win of the season. Brady Allen, Wes Clarke and T.J. Hopkins homered for the Gamecocks, who fell behind 1-0 and 3-2 before closing with a flourish. Allen also doubled twice and joined Clarke in driving in three runs.  Reed Morgan pitched the first six innings and Brett Kerry went the final three for Carolina. They combined for 13 strikeouts and no walks. The Gamecocks are tied with Alabama for the final spot in the SEC Tournament with five league games remaining, but Alabama holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.

* Presbyterian (26-26, 14-10) stole a school NCAA Division I record six bases and rolled past Longwod (11-37, 5-19), 10-1, to take a Big South Conference series win. Nick Guimbarda had two hits, stole two bases and drove in four runs for the Blue Hose.

* Dupree Hart had a two-run triple and drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly for College of Charleston (31-19, 12-8) as the Cougars clinched a CAA series win with a 5-3 victory over Towson (13-36, 6-14). The Tigers took a 3-0 lead into the second inning, but the Cougars responded with Hart's triple and Bradley Dixon's double. Tradd James went 5 1/3 innings of shutout relief and Nathan Ocker closed out for his 12th save.

* Charleston Southern (20-31, 10-14, got 14 hits in each game of a 9-4, 12-4 sweep of USC Upstate (22-26, 8-15) to complete a Big South Conference series sweep. Ryan Stoudemire homered in both games for the Buccaneers, who are on a season-best three-game winning streak.

* East Tennessee State scored two 10th-inning runs on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch to hand The Citadel (10-39, 3-17) its 19th straight loss, 3-1, at Riley Park. Tyler Corbitt singled, stole a base and drove in a run for the Bulldogs, who haven't won since April 5.

Tournaments
* NJCAA Eastern District - John Miller's ninth-inning home run gave Spartanburg Methodist (33-17) a 7-6 win over Potomac State and a spot in Sunday's championship round. Miller also homered earlier in the game. The Pioneers must beat Monroe twice to advance to the World Series. Earlier in the day, Donald Hansis hit two homers for the second straight game and SMC stayed alive with an 8-0 win over host and top-seeded Harford.  It was the 1,200th win of Pioneers coach Tim Wallace's career.  Nate Lamb struck out 10 in an eight-inning complete game.

* NCCAA South Regional - Warner University won a bid to the National Christian College Athletic Association World Series by claiming the South Regional.  The Royals beat Erskine (29-25), 15-8, in a championship game halted in the sixth inning because of rain. Earlier in the day, Warner beat the Flying Fleet, 13-7, in the completion of a game suspended by rain on Friday. Erskine then stayed alive with a 10-2 win over Trinity Baptist. Erskine is in contention to receive an at-large bid to the World Series later this month in Easley.

* Peach Belt Conference - USC Aiken (32-21)scored seven runs in the second inning and 11 in the third to beat Francis Marion (28-21), 22-7, to advance to Sunday's championship game. Conner Durden had two homers and drove in five runs in a game halted  after seven innings. Earlier, Francis
Marion scored six runs in the eighth inning and beat Columbus State, 9-7. The Pacers beat Flagler, 9-5, in their early game.
