Saturday's S.C. college baseball roundup, May 18

Wofford (33-23, 14-9)  leapfrogged two teams in the standings on Saturday, beating host UNC Greensboro (33-17, 14-10), 14-8, to clinch the second seed for the Southern Conference Tournament.

The Terriers took control early for the second straight day, scoring five runs in the first inning and never trailing. Mike Brown led off the game with a triple and Brett Rodriguez followed with a double and Wofford was off and running. Brown finished with five hits.

The Terriers scored 10 runs in the third inning en route to an 18-10 win over Friday.

Wofford entered the weekend a half-game behind Mercer and UNC Greensboro, who shared second place. The series win over the Spartans, coupled with Furman's series win over Mercer, allowed the Terriers to craft their highest-ever finish in the SoCon's regular season.

NCAA Division II Southeast Regional:* North Greenville (45-9) advanced to the final round of the regional with an 8-3 win over Lincoln Memorial. The Crusaders will play Catawba, winner of the Newberry half of the regional, in a best-of-three series next weekend. The winner advances to the Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C. in June.

Utah Jones had four hits for the Crusaders, who have won 15 straight games.
