Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, Feb. 3-9: Newberry

Newberry ( 5-0 for the week)
(beat Belmont Abbey; beat. Lenoir-Rhyne; went 3-0 vs. Alabama Huntsville)

While five other state teams won four games this week, Newberry topped them by going 5-0, moving to 7-0 on the season.

Coach Russell Triplett's squad began the week with a Monday win over a traditionally solid Belmont Abbey squad in a game rained out the previous week.

The Wolves followed that with a win over South Atlantic Conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne. The 12-team league doesn't play a full round-robin schedule, so the two longtime rival Lutheran-affiliated schools set up a pair of mid-week meetings that don't count in the conference standings.

Newberry followed that up with a weekend sweep of Alabama Huntsville.

This week, the Wolves play host to Lander before traveling to Nova Southeastern for its final non-SAC weekend series of the season.
