News digest, Feb. 1

ESPN TV plans include Clemson, USC

ESPN has revealed the college baseball schedule for its networks for this season, and there's lots to watch.

Clemson has nine games - four at home and five on the road - set for national coverage. South Carolina has eight - five home games and three road games - set for national coverage.

More Clemson games will be streamed through ACC Network Extra. I will add a link to an ACC-centric schedule when it is posted. The ACC Tournament is set for May 21-26 at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. All games before the finals will air on the ACC Network. The ESPN network for the championship game will be announced later.

Additional USC games may be selected for wildcard coverage by the SEC Network for the final weekend of the regular season. In addition, most other USC games are likely to be streamed on SEC+ or some other platform.

The SEC Tournament championship game will air on  ESPN2 at 3 p.m. from Hoover, Ala. May 26. All preceding games in the tournament will be on the SEC Network.

Erskine looking to add turf

During the offseason - when I struggle to keep focused enough to provide updates here - Erskine announced a fundraiser to install turf at Grier Field. Donations fell short of the $700,000 goal, and the campaign is listed as have ended Dec. 31, but I doubt coach Mark Crocco would turn down a donation if you wanted to contribute to the project's eventual completion.

Golinski honored

Greenville High product Braden Golinski, a senior outfielder at Army, was named preseason all Patriot League in a vote of league coaches and publicists. Golinski was all-conference last season, batting .323. The Black Knights also were voted to win the conference championship this season. Golinski played for his dad, Joey Golinski, at Greenville. The elder Golinski stepped down as Red Raiders coach last week to take another job.

Rankings

NCBWA preseason: 1. Wake Forest. 12. Clemson. 15. South Carolina. 19. Coastal Carolina.
