A five-run seventh inning gave Voorhees a two-run lead, but the Tigers needed an extra inning to top Edward Waters, 6-5, in the first game of a doubleheader at Howard Roey Field in Jacksonville. 

Voorhees trailed 3-0 entering the final scheduled inning, but the first five batters reached base to tie the score. Raekwon Wedderburn singled in the go-ahead run, and Pedro Rios walked with the bases loaded to give the Tigers a two-run lead.

Edward Waters tied the score on a single, a walk, two balks and a single to in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Isaiah Palmer led off the Voorhees eighth with a single, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on Michael Ramos' single. In the bottom of the eighth, EWU got the potential tying run to third before Jathan Smith got a strikeout to end the game.

In Game 2, Angel Morel struck out 10 in a complete game and the Tigers outhit EWU, 5-2, but lost, 1-0.

Elsewhere: Cole Messina and Ethan Petry homerered, Queens  pitchers walked 15 and hit 3, and South Carolina pitchers struck out 17 as the Gamecocks (5-0) won by run rule for the third straight game ... Jace Rinehart hit two homers and USC Upstate rapped 16 hits to get its first win of the season ... Zach Cowart and David Lewis homered in the first inning and Lewis added another shot later in North Greenville's win over North Georgia ...  USC Sumter scored six runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Catawba Valley in a game played at Presbyterian College ... Devin Mitchell singled, tripled and homered in the opener and Mac James drove in three runs in Game 2 of Florence-Darlington Tech's sweep of  Francis Marion JV team ...  Kennesaw State scored its four runs in the ninth inning to have Wofford its first loss ... A six-fourth and a seven-run seventh put Coker in a huge hole in its loss to Barton (11-0) ...

Beyond the border

* Tennessee's Billy Amick, a South Carolina native and transfer from Clemson, hit his third homer in the Vols'  seven-inning 16-0 win over East Tennessee State.
* Xavier, coming off of being swept at Clemson, dropped Louisville to 0-3 with a 9-1 win.
* UCF knocked off Miami, 4-3.
* Austin Peay completed a two-game sweep at Mississippi State, scoring three in the eighth and four in the ninth to win, 13-10.
* Mississippi fell to Arkansas State, 4-2.
