Lander's Burke, Wilder earn Peach Belt Conference awards

Lander's Jason Burke was named coach of the year and Bearcats shortstop Ethan Wilder was named player of the year as the Peach Belt Conference announced its postseason baseball awards.

Burke directed to its first regular-season title since 2014.  Wilder was named first-team all-conference, in voting by league coaches, as was teammate Connor Droze, the designated hitter.

Starting pitchers Anson Merrick and Bennett Nance, relief pitcher Tyler Overhold and outfielder Gary Garrett of Lander were second-team choices, along with outfielder Josh Sharp of USC Aiken.

The conference tournament begins Friday.
