News digest, April 16

Limestone in financial difficulty

Limestone College on Wednesday announced it is dealing with financial issues that may force the school to transition to online-only classes - or cease operations completely.

Neither option would be good news for Brett Harker's baseball team or other athletics squads at the Gaffney school. Wednesday's release stated going online only would result in the discontinuation of all in-person academic operations and all other activities, including athletics.

The statement indicated the school needs $6 million in immediate financial support to continue as is.

The school's board of trustees will meet April 22 to discuss options.

Stay tuned.

Many of you know Harker was head coach at Furman in 2020 when the school axed the baseball program over financial concern.
