Lemonis out at Mississippi State

Mississippi State has moved on from head coach Chris Lemonis, a former player at The Citadel who led MSU to the 2021 College World Series title.

The Bulldogs are 25-19 this season, including 7-14 in the Southeastern Conference. Pitching coach Justin Parker, who formerly held the same role at South Carolina, will serve as interim coach.

"A change in leadership is what's best for the future of Mississippi State Baseball," said school athletic director Zac Selmon in comments released by the school. "We have not consistently met the standard of success that our university, fans and student-athletes expect and deserve. I want to thank Coach Lemonis for his work and the time he gave to our program, including a national championship in 2021. We appreciate his efforts and wish him and his family all the best moving forward."

Lemonis had a 232-135 record in 6-plus seasons in Starkville. Counting a stint at Indiana, he has a 373-226-2 career mark. Lemonis was born in Starkville but grew up in Myrtle Beach.

He was on The Citadel's 1990 College World Series team and later served as an assistant coach there. He was inducted into that school's Hall of Fame in 2016.
