Harker reacts to Limestone's closing

Limestone University's board of trustees announced on Tuesday that the Gaffney school will discontinue all on-campus and online programs and close after this academic year because of  financial issues.

In a post on X, Saints baseball coach Brett Harker said "Our chapter at Limestone will come to an end after our playoff run. This makes me so sad for our players and their families, and all the faculty and staff at Limestone. This small town University is filled with some of the best people you could ask for. From the administrators, to the staff at the cafe, Limestone was a special place to call home.

"I have such a peace that God has this under control. I have faith that God will use this to stretch our student-athletes faith. I can't wait to see what he has in store for each of our players, coaching staff and the Harker family. For everyone that keeps asking, the Harkers are good (I promise), because God is good and faithful."

Limestone plays Coker in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament in Friday in Salisbury, N.C.

Mainieri pessimistic about Petry's return

USC baseball coach Paul Mainieri said right fielder Ethan Petry could miss the remainder of the season.

Petry injured his left shoulder when he ran into a wall while making a play during Game 1 of Saturday's  doubleheader with Kentucky. He left the game after popping up - with the swing causing him obvious pain - in his next at-bat.

After Tuesday's win over Charleston Southern, Mainieri said has Petry has a strain of the AC joint in his left shoulder. "That injury is-to-four weeks to heal," he said. "There's a good chance that he's done for the year. Maybe he will get back for the last series or the SEC Tournament. We will have to see."

Petry is batting .329 with 10 homers and 34 RBI. He has a .338 career average with 54 homers and 162 RBI. He was pursuing Justin Smoak's school record of 62 career homers.

Ex-Gamecock Williams produces USC documentary for ESPN

Former USC baseball player Jake Williams is the producer for SEC Storied: "In Spirit," an ESPN documentary on the Gamecocks' 2010-11 national championship baseball teams. It debuts May 14 on the SEC Network.

Williams is a Riverside High graduate and started his career at Wofford before transferring to USC. I remember him throwing out a Florida runner at home from left field in the 10th inning to prevent the go-ahead run from scoring in Game 1 of the championship series.

The hour-long feature also goes into the teams' relationship with a couple of  cancer patients.

Gamecocks honors CWS teams

South Carolina will honor its College World Series teams from 1975, 2010 and 2011 during this weekend's series with Florida. The 1975 squad, the school's first CWS team, will be featured on Friday. The national championship teams of  2010 and 2011 will be recognized on Saturday.
